On August 8, 2026, the All Japan Soroban Championship (73rd edition) was held at the Kyoto International Conference Center. The event was supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), among others, and is the highest-level competition in the Japanese soroban community. A total of 702 contestants from all 47 prefectures of Japan participated in the event and engaged in fierce competition.

In the highly anticipated "Soroban Japan No. 1" overall competition, Tsujikubo Rinne, representing Saitama Prefecture, won the championship for the first time, fulfilling her long-cherished wish.

Tsujikubo had regrettably lost in the same event last year, missing out on the title. This year, she challenged again with a determination to redeem herself. As a third-year university student, she balanced her studies while waking up early every day to practice and continuously honing her skills. In the finals, facing strong competitors from across the country, she remained calm and performed steadily, ultimately ascending to the top spot in Japan with an outstanding result.

Other events were also held during the championship. In the individual overall competition, contestants engaged in high-level contests. In the elementary school category, Aoki Eito won the "Japan No. 1" title. In addition, Ishino Haruto, on behalf of all contestants, gave the competitor's oath.

This championship not only showcased the highest level of soroban competition in Japan, but also reflected the widespread popularity and deep foundation of soroban education across the country.
