[Reported by Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Taiwan, China] In order to increase the interaction and exchange between the abacus community and discuss the future promotion plan of abacus, the Abacus and Mental Mathematics Committee of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Taiwan, China held an annual executive committee meeting and a seminar among directors of various exam areas at the meeting room of the Provincial Chamber of Commerce on January 15. Chiu-Yung Hsiao, Vice Chairman of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Taiwan, China and Chairman of the Abacus and Mental Mathematics Committee, chaired the meeting.
Vice Chairman Xiao stated in his speech that due to the strong support and assistance of various teachers to the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Taiwan, China, the promotion of abacus by the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Taiwan, China can develop steadily. With the improvement out of the epidemic, the conference to celebrate World Abacus Day was successfully held in August last year, and experts and scholars were invited to share speeches online. On the same day, an online abacus observation competition was also held, including the United States, Australia, Indonesia, more than one thousand contestants from more than ten overseas examination venues participated online, which was very lively. He also hope that this year's celebration will be similar to previous years, and that overseas contestants will be invited to participate in the competition. In the new year, he hopes people will continue to support and work together to promote Mental abacus and create new value for Mental abacus.
At the meeting, relevant personnel reported the efforts of the Abacus and Mental Mathematics Committee in promoting abacus skills in 2022 as well as its priorities in 2023, including 4 Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Assessment Tests per year (March 19, May 21, September 17, and December 17), 2 mathematics assessment tests (January 15 and June 18), 2 Cross-Strait Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Communication Competitions (May 28 and November 19), and the World Abacus Day Celebration Conference 2023 as well as the abacus and mental arithmetic competitions and mathematics competitions to be organized on August 6, where abacus and mental arithmetic groups will be invited.
At the meeting, Mr. Yang Chengyan and Ms. Liao Huiwan shared their experience in teaching children's number sense and elderly's abacus-based mental arithmetics. Many teachers also put forward suggestions and opinions on teaching and practice of the abacus-based mental arithmetics. Everyone learned from each other and benefited a lot. After the meeting, the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Taiwan, China held a special social dinner party to express gratitude to the teachers present for their recognition and support of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Taiwan, China's abacus promotion work, and the atmosphere was lively.
