I am Zhongying Jin from the Australia Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Inc.. I am a mathematics teacher with more than 30 years of teaching experience, and also a teacher who combines abacus and mental arithmetic with mathematics for more than 20 years. First, I would like to introduce the development of our cause of abacus and mental arithmetic. Everyone knows that Melbourne has been the longest closed city in the world in the past three years. During the epidemic period, our enrollment is full, Because of the consideration of teaching schedule, once the class starts, we will not accept any new students. Therefore, if our students want to sign up, they will first enter a mental abacus preparation group. If we are going to enroll, we will send a notice in the circle of friends and groups. The children who want to sign up will pay for the position and will not accept the position occupied by the mouth. Therefore, every year, parents urge us to arrange the time. They will set the time for mental abacus study and then arrange other courses. This is because our teaching of combining abacus calculation with mathematics has been recognized by parents, who are promoting for us.
This year is the third year that our level appraisal has been carried out, and our level appraisal of mental abacus has been carried out in a fixed and benign mode. In the past two years, it has been carried out in Melbourne and Brisbane. The level appraisal of mental abacus is in the end of each academic year and directly included in the level appraisal work. The level appraisal is the recognition and promotion of children's one-year learning. The children participating in the level appraisal of mental abacus are not only Chinese, and there are also westerners.
What I want to say next is a suggestion to the WAAMA, which is about training foreign abacus teachers to make their intangible cultural heritage of abacus spread and develop well abroad.
Some children in foreign countries are already in the third or fourth grade, but they are still counting with their fingers. Because calculation makes children lose interest in mathematics. When these children came to learn mental abacus, I found that they not only learned fast, but also understood the concept of mathematics well through effective guidance. They began to like mathematics because of their mental abacus learning and got good grades. Through more than ten years of teaching in Australia, I realized that the spread of mental abacus in Australia is very good. The premise is that the concept should be clear and the combination of mental abacus and mathematics should be effective. Besides me, there are four or five other schools teaching mental abacus in Melbourne. Because there are children who come to me from them, I also learned about the problems of mental abacus teachers and the opinions of parents that these teachers lack theoretical guidance. They are just imitating some hard rules that have been learned through training. For them, they are also crossing the river by feeling the stones, and they really want guidance. Therefore, we wish that the WAAMA can combine the situation abroad, train the teachers of mental abacus in foreign countries, start from the source, so as to let the cultural card of mental abacus develop healthily and vigorously in the world, and let the world cultural heritage be carried forward around the world.
