On June 15, 2022, the Chinese Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Association (CAMAA) held the Ninth President's Office Meeting of the Ninth Council (videoconferencing). Chairwoman Liu Jianhua attended the meeting and delivered a speech, Vice Chairmen Wang Yili, Wang Weida, Ma Minxia, Guo Shirong and Lu Ping and Secretary-General Zhao Xiangyi attended the meeting, and Deputy Secretary-General Wen Zhifang, Ni Xiaojing, Liu Qinying, Chen Guozhong, Gu Baoda and Fu Jie, and Huang Wenkun, Executive President of the Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Institute of Chinese Academy of Fiscal Sciences, attended the meeting as non-voting delegates. The meeting was presided over by Cheng Beiping, Executive Vice Chairman of CAMAA.

Liu Jianhua pointed out, in the first half of 2022, with the concerted efforts of everyone, we have tackled the adverse impacts of COVID-19, and made progress amid stability in all our work, producing certain results. In view of the protection, inheritance and development of the abacus intangible cultural heritage and key work of CAMAA in the second half of the year, Liu Jianhua required that: First, we should continue to regard the study and implementation of the Opinions on Further Strengthening the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage as an important aspect in the protection and inheritance work in current and future periods, strengthen organizational leadership, clarify the division of responsibilities, and make a to-do List. Second, we should take the initiative to align with the Curriculum Plan and Standards for Compulsory Education (2022 Edition) in terms of abacus contents, make overall plans for abacus and mental arithmetic education and teaching experimental areas, support experimental areas in carrying out basic theoretical research, constantly promote the standardized development of experimental areas, and work hard to build a fertile “experimental field” for teaching abacus and mental arithmetic in classrooms. Third, we should give full play to the vital role of abacus and mental arithmetic in scientific education, lay a profound cultural connotation for and incorporate the connotation of scientific education into rural revitalization, and well organize the “Summary Meeting of the Rural Revitalization Public Welfare Campaign for Chinese Abacus Intangible Cultural Heritage & Launch Ceremony for the Second Public Welfare Campaign”, so as to make contribution to rural revitalization with Chinese abacus skill. Fourth, while doing a good job in daily epidemic control, we should take actions in many aspects to advance various work in the second half of 2022.                    

At the meeting, Secretary-General Zhao Xiangyi reported on and Deputy Secretary-General Wen Zhifang reported on their work in the first half of 2022.

The participants discussed how to hold the 10th General Assembly of CAMAA and the 6th National Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition as scheduled; the meeting adopted the plan for the use of major funds of CAMAA in H2 and determined the Measures of Chinese Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Association for Recommending National Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritors to Apply for the Abacus Project and other matters.
