Delegation from EDUKIDS TECHNOLOGY SDN. BHD. Malaysia Visits WAAMA Secretariat

On September 18, 2025, a four-person delegation led by Goh Swee Hong, CEO of EDUKIDS TECHNOLOGY SDN. BHD. (a member organization of the World Association of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic, hereinafter referred to as WAAMA), visited the WAAMA Secretariat and held a cordial and friendly meeting with WAAMA Secretary-General Cheng Beiping and other representatives.

Secretary-General Cheng Beiping, referencing the recently held Fourth Meeting of the Sixth Standing Council of WAAMA, introduced WAAMA’s active efforts in promoting the protection, inheritance, and development of abacus as an intangible cultural heritage, as well as in enhancing cultural exchanges and mutual learning in abacus and mental arithmetic across different countries and regions. He provided an overview of the implementation of WAAMA’s Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Appraisal Certification Scheme and details of the upcoming 9th Competition of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic of WAAMA scheduled for 2026. He also welcomed continued active participation from EDUKIDS TECHNOLOGY SDN. BHD. Malaysia in various activities organized by WAAMA.

CEO Goh Swee Hong noted that the "Shenmo Cup" Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition organized by the institution in Malaysia has received official national recognition, with award recipients eligible for bonus points in local secondary school entrance examinations. Since joining WAAMA’s Certification Program in 2023, the WAAMA appraisal conducted by the institution have been well received by local students. He also provided an introduction to the development of abacus and mental arithmetic education in Malaysia and an overview of the institution itself, which was established in 2009, currently operates 18 branches, and employs 30 staff members and 60 teachers, serving over 2,000 students.

The delegation also visited the Chinese Zhusuan Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Center with great interest. Through firsthand experience, they gained a deeper understanding of the preservation and research of ancient Chinese abacus texts, the exquisite physical abacuses on display, and the contemporary value of mental arithmetic.

The activities were attended by Assistant Secretaries-General Zhao Xiangyi and Yan Xiaoming, Secretariat member Gao Jiaqi from WAAMA, as well as Chief Operating Officer Huang Zhaobi, Executive Director Sun Xiaoyin, and Market Development Manager Wu Chenghan from EDUKIDS TECHNOLOGY SDN. BHD. Malaysia.
