Dear the members of the World Association of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic:

Happy New Year!

As the new year is coming, we will have a fresh start for the year ahead. At this wonderful moment for the upcoming of New Year’s Day in 2022, may the Secretariat of the World Association of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic (hereinafter referred to as the WAAMA) extends holiday greetings and best wishes to all the members of WAAMA as well as all the insightful people who concern the inheritance, protection and development of abacus and mental arithmetic worldwide!

Looking back upon the year of 2021, we have made extraordinary achievements. Over the past year, we have been united in a tenacious fight against the Covid-19 epidemic, while at the same time we have brainstormed and worked hard to promote the development of our career. In this year, we adapted to the conditions and creatively held the conference online. We have successfully held the 3rd Meeting of the 5th Executive Council, the 3rd Meeting of the 5th Council, the 4th Meeting of the 5th Executive Council, as well as the 6th Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Education Academic Exchange Seminar of WAAMA, effectively promote exchanges and mutual learning among member units. This year, we actively promoted the popularization and development of WAAMA’s appraisal pilot program, with members in Australia, Hong Kong SAR of China, Canada, and the United Kingdom successively starting the pilot work. This year, we recruited four member units from Russia, Nigeria, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and the number of members of WAAMA has increased to 53. In various aspects such as organization construction, theoretical research, competition and appraisal, teacher education, communication and publicity, all member units have worked hard to promote related work and contributed a positive strength to the world's career of abacus and mental arithmetic.

It is hoped that in the coming new year, all members of WAAMA could join hands to strengthen ties, jointly promote the culture of abacus as intangible cultural heritage, and carry forward the education of abacus and mental arithmetic worldwide to benefit mankind.
